Storytime at the Stone Coffee House

When looking for a good storytime but be sure to add The Stone Coffee Bar in Gruene to your list of stops. They have been providing a storytime on Wednesdays at 11am and they're doing a great job! The storytime actually takes place in an adjacent room right next to the actual coffee shop, which is really nice and puts a mother's worries at ease that her child may disrupt anyone trying to enjoy a cup of joe in peaceful quiet. The room is a little on the smaller side but seats about 10-12 kids plus parents comfortably. At the start of storytime, the children were given pieces of paper and larger sized crayons to draw with during the storytime. This worked wonders with my own child who I was concerned wouldn't sit through a whole story and really helped to keep himself occuppied while listening. Listening didn't seem to be a problem though because the storyteller was engaging, fun, used lots of expressions, and really did an awesome job at keeping the kids interested. The storytime lasted about 30min and a total of 3 books were read which was plenty for the age range of kids who were there. Had I known ahead of time, I would of brought a sack lunch to enjoy after storytime while sitting out on their beautiful patio courtyard. I did manage to purchase a green mint iced tea which was excellent and look forward to trying out some of their other menu items which include coffee's, tea's, smoothies and juices as well as some pastry items. We'll definitely be back again and would recommend this storytime!

The Red Rooster

If it's been awhile since you've visited the Red Rooster, located near the downtown circle, it's time to take another look! I had the pleasure of meeting some other moms there this morning and I was pleasantly surprised at some of the changes. Granted, it's been way too long since I've been there, so forgive me if this is all old news to many of you but I'm gonna brag on it for a minute anyways. As you can see in the picture below, they've installed a playarea with sand bottom located just to the side of the main restaurant. The second picture shows the very shady seating area just next to the playground. My only complaint was that it was quite hot out today and the slides were too hot to slide on but come Fall, I can see this area as a great place to gather for a bite to eat or cup of joe and chat.

There is also a stage off to the right side of this picture which I assumed was set up for bands and live music. I'd like to learn more about what types of events they have here in the evenings and when I find out, I'll be sure to pass along.
For all you cupcake lovers out there, and I know there are many, be sure to walk through the main restaurant to the cupcake & coffee bar. The kids can then pick out their favorite flavor of cupcake (with parents permission) and pick their choice of frosting (they had like 10+different kinds) and toppings. The nice lady behind the counter will actually assemble the cupcake and apply the desired choices which for me was fine as I'm sure my 3 yr old would of made a mess of it.
I wish of would taken more pictures and gotten some more info such as pricing but as I remember the cupcakes were very reasonably priced, under $3 and were very yummy. I know this for a fact because I stole a bite of my kids!
